All hail the last week of #WriterRecharge!
Joining in for the month of February definitely made a cold, snowy month pass more quickly, so a huge thanks to the gang responsible: Sara Biren, Katy Upperman, Alison Miller, Liz Parker, and Elodie Nowodazkij,
I was so deep in the Revisions Cave that I only popped my head out for the Monday check-ins, but I’m grateful for the accountability nevertheless, and I promise I was hard at work and thinking of you all doing the same. 🙂 And thus, progress!
How did I do during the third week?
Writing: I switched my goals/rules up a bit again (because I can), and it was just the thing I needed this week. My First Five Pages workshop finished up, and I tweaked the beginning of my WIP again based on the last fantastic feedback before taking another spin through its first 50 pages for big-picture issues. Not exactly what I’d intended to do, but I’m calling it a success!
Swimming: For the first time, I joined the snow instead of letting it beat me. I only got to swim twice this week, but I went cross-country skiiing once and ice skating once, and both of those were well worth getting out into the cold.
Reading: I only read one book this week, but it was a great one: BECOMING JOSEPHINE by Heather Webb (about Napoleon’s wife, the Empress Josephine). I was lucky enough to win a copy of the book, and I also got to attend a reading/signing, so I couldn’t let this one sit on my TBR stack any longer. What fantastic details and what a compelling character!
Bonus Awesomeness: My six-year-old twins had school vacation this week, and one of the things they did was to prepare their submissions for their first writing contest (for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade). They each made a beautiful picture book with five illustrations and five pages of text. I am so proud of them! Take a look at their snazzy covers:
What are my goals for this week?
I’ll be sticking with my same goals for the week with swimming (four times a week) and reading (one more book), but I’m planning on tackling the writing task I’ve been avoiding: taking a pass through the rest of the WIP and marking where I need to change or add the POV to the alternate POV character. I won’t actually be making any changes/writing new scenes, so just figuring it out should be totally doable, right? *blinks*
Hope the last week of #WriterRecharge treats you well!
It´s totally doable! And you can doooo it 🙂 I love your attitude in regards the snow, how you joined in 🙂
Oh and those picture books look great!
Oooh, thanks. I hope so! And I couldn’t resist sharing the PB covers. So proud of them both. 🙂
Clearly, your twins are well on their way to following in their mother’s literary footsteps. Cool! 🙂 I like your “if you can’t beat them join them” attitude to the snow–instead of letting it scupper your exercise plan, you incorporated it into your exercise plan. And quite successfully, it seems! 🙂
Have a great last Recharge week, Kip. May it encourage you on into March!
Thanks, Colin! And yeah, it made me realize I should have joined the snow earlier on. Hopefully I can keep it up with the rest of winter. Hope you have a great week too!
Love that your kids are writing, too. With your genes, they’ll go far. Hang on a few more weeks. Winter’s almost over!
Aww, thanks, Debbie! It’s always great to see young kids with a passion for something already (and bonus points for when it’s something the parents love too)!
I’ve never been cross country skiing, but I’ve always wanted to try it. Don’t think it’ll happen anytime soon now that we’re living in FL, but maybe someday. 🙂 Looks like you’ve rocked your goals again this week, Kip — way to go! Here’s to a successful final week!
I hadn’t been in a while, and I forgot how much I love it! It’s not quite as painful on the knees as such as downhill, and really gives you the (relative) peace and quiet to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Hope you have a great last week recharging too!
Adorable picture books! I love kid drawings. Cross-country skiing and swimming are both really vigorous workouts. You must be well on your way to good shape–or are in good shape already. I used to think I was in good shape and then tried swimming laps–yikes!
Thanks! I am so proud of the kiddos. And it’s funny–I can swim forever but can’t run for even five minutes. I guess it’s about finding what you can enjoy and what your body can handle, lol. Have a great week!
awwww…cutie pies! Can’t believe you cross country skiied! That’s incredible. I get exhausted just watching it during the Olympics. Good luck with your goals this week!
Well, I’m hardly an Olympic skier (hee!) but it was a lot of fun. Best of luck to you this week too!
Love the picture books!
Thank you! It was so much fun watching them pull them together. 🙂
Those picture books ROCK!
Good luck with your goals this week! Are you doing March Madness this year? I’ve got half a WIP to revise, so I probably will. I have to stay accountable somehow 🙂
I’ve been thinking about March Madness! I also have the rest of the WIP to revise, so I’ve got to decide if that or radio silence is the best way to go. 😉
awww! love the kids stuff…sniff…i miss those days sometimes! good luck this week!
Thanks! You too!
You can do it!!! Good luck next week!!!
Same to you!
I need to make reading a goal. I usually read 1-2 books a week, but I’ve been slacking a bit lately. Must fix that! But sounds like you’ve had a very productive week! And I LOVE the twins’ covers! How awesome!
Hope you have another wonderful week!
I read every night, but I find I only squeeze more books in when I read during the day too, so giving myself a goal definitely helps. So many good books out there!
So I love that you’re kids are following in your footsteps. That’s got to make you feel really awesome 🙂 Glad to hear that your month of first five pages revisions has done you well.
