Curious where your manuscript fell compared to the other entrants of #TheWritersVoice contest? Look no further!
My intrepid partner and fellow entrant Ann Bedichek (http://annbedichek.com/blog/)Β and I crunched the numbers and have the following lovely charts to amaze and amuse.
First off, this contest was open to adult, YA, and MG manuscripts, but the overwhelming majority of entries were YA. Have some YA pie:
As far as genre went, there was a very mixed bag, including a wealth of surprises! Genres in the chart are as close to what was self-identified as possible (some were not identified). Keeping that in mind, the three most-represented genres were fantasy, contemporary, and sci-fi. Wow! Check out the deets here:
And finally, the genre breakdown of the winning entries–looks like contemporary stole the show! Congrats to all the winning manuscripts!
wow, it’s cool that you did this, I was definitely wondering what the stats were! I’m not surprised to see the majority was YA though lol I’m in the 17% adult pile
This was really interesting. I was thinking of making a chart, but I’m so glad you did it and saved me the time!
you’re catering to my love of charts. π Good luck in the contest. tasha #119
I definitely noticed an overwhelming response from YA authors when I read the entries. Not sure if that’s going to help or hurt my lil’ adult offering. π Thanks so much for doing this–it was great to see the breakdown.
I was wondering, thanks for taking the time to figure this all out and share it with us! π
I’m definitely writing in a popular genre!
MG Sci-Fi here. Thanks for posting this!
OMG, I love me some organization. OCD and I are very, very good friends. Well done, my dear!
Thanks for crunching the numbers! I was curious π
Wow, I was just making a list. π I think it’s an interesting breakdown – I was wondering whether being on the less-frequented end of the spectrum would help or hurt some of us. Guess we’ll find soon.
Wow contemporary!! I have the feeling that Cupid’s responsible for most of those contemporaries picks. It will be interesting to see if the agents lean toward contemporaries, too.
Thank you for all your amazing work on this!! You ROCK!
This is great! I love stats on how these contests break down. Thanks for putting this together!!
